Whole of School Approach to Physical Activity
This article is all about the empowerment of Physical Education program in school setting by putting an organized effort which stressed out the 3 vital points to further improve the quality of the P.E program.
1. Assessing the status of physical activity and physical education in schools
- continuous development and assessment of the physical education curriculum is important. Curriculum developers of the school has to keep in mind the up to date trends and issues relating to physical education, also, the demand of the society which we have to meet, for instance, you are teaching in place which is most likely surrounded by bodies of water well then improve swimming and aquatics activities in your school. if supposed you're living in USA where Basketball has been invented then might as well create a program that will promote and enhance the skills in playing Basketball.
2.Reviewing the science behind the effects of physical activity on health, development and academic performance in youth
- Physiologically speaking if one is expose to any physical activity or just a simple loco motor movements, directly there would be a favorable effects to the body. A 15 minutes of walking every day can actually burn certain amount of calories inside your body, simple jogging, biking, running jumping and even kissing (for adult) according to study can make your muscles stretch and burn a certain amount of calories then imagine what more if its physical activities where all of the body parts are moving. On the other hand, the academic performance of a child has something to do with Physical Activities.Studies show that a child who is physically active in sports and games has also a great performance in academics as compare with a child who is not. Reasons are the mind and the body are getting more relax to receive information and learning. the emotional and social skills also are increasing that's why according to them a child has a great tendency to excel and be academically active as well.
3. Making recommendations appropriate with the scientific evidence.
- Of course there's still room for improvement. even if the school has a strong and concrete P.E program but if the availability of the equipment are lacking still not enough. or for example if the school has strong program and curriculum for P.E,and has adequate and of quality sports equipment resources, but you don't have a skilled and competent Physical education instructor still it won't work.
I hope that the above points will be also implemented in the school not only in states of america but to its neighboring countries as well...especially to the school which I am working right now in United Arab Emirates.
